CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in solving a copper wire theft reported last month. Between Oct. 10 and 11, unknown suspects broke into a container on the 3700 block of Interstate 25 Service Road and took 2,000 feet of #4 copper wire.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, copper theft is a significant issue nationwide, with annual losses estimated at $1 billion when factoring in damages and lost revenue. The high resale value of copper drives this trend, leading law enforcement agencies to urge citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity.

Anyone with knowledge about this theft, or any other crime in the area, can contact Crime Stoppers Silent Witness by calling 638-TIPS (638-8477) or visiting silentwitnesslaramiecounty.com. Informants can choose to stay anonymous and may receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 if the tip leads to a successful outcome.

The LCSO reminds residents that “Together, we can make a difference,” urging everyone to help keep the community safe by reporting any relevant details.
