CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Cheyenne, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Cheyenne Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Names for misdemeanor citations have been removed.
DUI and Failure to Maintain Lane, WYO 211, Jan. 16, WHP
A 66-year-old Cheyenne woman was arrested for driving under the influence after a Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately, or REDDI, report indicated her vehicle was swerving erratically on Wyoming Highway 211.
At 4:57 p.m., Sergeant Harley Kalb of the Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to the report near mile marker 16. The driver, who was operating a red Ford F-150, was observed drifting out of her lane and was stopped near mile marker 17.
Upon contact, the driver displayed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and the odor of alcohol. She admitted to drinking whiskey and diet coke at a local establishment earlier in the day. Standardized field sobriety tests confirmed impairment, and a breath test at the Laramie County Detention Center showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.16%.
The woman was arrested and cited for DUI and failure to maintain a lane.
Hit-and-Run and Interference, West 17th Street, Jan. 16, CPD
A 43-year-old Cheyenne man was arrested for a hit-and-run interference with a peace officer and failing to provide proof of insurance after striking another vehicle and refusing to exchange information.
At 1:08 p.m., Officer Wingeleth of the Cheyenne Police Department responded to a report of a hit-and-run near Stanfield Avenue. The suspect, driving a white Geo Metro, struck another vehicle while pulling out of a parking spot, leaving visible paint transfer. The driver refused to exchange insurance information and left the scene.
Officers later located the vehicle and identified the driver as the suspect based on information from a witness. During a traffic stop on West 17th Street, the man became uncooperative and refused to provide insurance. He was arrested for duty to stop after an accident, interference with a peace officer and failing to provide proof of insurance. The man was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center.
Drug Possession and Driving Without a License, Snyder Avenue and West Lincolnway, Jan. 16, CPD
A 35-year-old Laramie man was arrested for driving without a license and possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop for speeding.
At 11:19 p.m., Officer Brengman of the Cheyenne Police Department stopped the suspect’s vehicle for traveling 35 mph in a 30 mph zone and having non-operational rear license plate lights. The driver provided a Wyoming ID card, and NCIC records showed he was not eligible for a driver’s license.
Officer Sweet and K-9 Dutch arrived on the scene, and the K-9 indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A search revealed a plastic baggie containing a white crystalline substance, suspected to be methamphetamine. The man was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on charges of driving without a license and possession of a controlled substance.
