CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Cheyenne, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Cheyenne Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Names for misdemeanor citations have been removed.
DUI with Child Passenger, West Allison Road, March 5, CPD
A 36-year-old Cheyenne woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon for driving under the influence with a child passenger, according to a police report.
A Cheyenne Police Department officer responded to a report of a hit-and-run at South High School around 2:26 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect vehicle, a maroon 2006 Ford Expedition, was located in the pickup line at Johnson Junior High School across the street. The driver drove away when the officer attempted to make contact. She later returned to the scene and hit a curb while parking.
The woman denied being involved in the hit-and-run. She admitted to drinking one glass of Moscato, but the officer observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and bloodshot eyes.
The officer noticed a young child in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. The child was identified as her 2-year-old daughter.
The woman agreed to standard field sobriety tests, which she failed. The woman submitted to a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.182. She was arrested for DUI with a child passenger and was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center without further incident.
Motor Vehicle Theft, Central Avenue, March 5, CPD
A 35-year-old Cheyenne man was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence, theft and interference with a peace officer, according to a police report.
A Cheyenne officer responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at 819 Maxwell Ave. around 7:38 a.m. Wednesday. The stolen vehicle, a silver Hyundai Sedona, was later found crashed into a chain-link fence at Maxwell Avenue and East 5th Street. The driver, identified as Victor Gabriel Gardea, ran away.
The officer found Gardea running west across the intersection of Interstate 180 and 5th Street. He was apprehended after a brief chase, during which the officer deployed a Taser.
At the hospital, Gardea told officers he was under the influence of methamphetamine and fentanyl, the booking sheet states. A search warrant was granted, and a blood sample was taken for a DUI blood kit. Gardea was cleared by medical personnel and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center.
He was arrested for felony theft, interference with a peace officer, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and reckless driving.
Shoplifting, Dell Range Boulevard, March 5, CPD
A 25-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, both of Greeley, Colorado, were arrested for felony shoplifting, with the woman also being charged for interference with a peace officer, according to police reports.
On Wednesday, Cheyenne police officers responded to a shoplifting report at Ulta Beauty in Frontier Mall. The suspects, a male and female wearing hoodies, stole merchandise and left in a white Ford Fusion with blue wheels and no license plates, a booking sheet states.
Later, officers conducting shoplifting enforcement at Target spotted the suspect vehicle. The suspects, identified as Johanna Gutierrez and Raul Rojas, were seen putting on hoodies and face masks before running into the store.
Gutierrez was apprehended after a brief pursuit. A search of the vehicle revealed stolen perfume and cosmetics from Ulta Beauty, totaling over $1,000.
Both were taken to the Laramie County Detention Center.
