CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Gov. Mark Gordon has appointed TJ Forwood, a Cheyenne native and seasoned attorney, as the circuit court judge for the First Judicial District in Laramie County. This appointment fills the vacancy left by Judge Thomas Lee, who recently retired.

Forwood brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has served as an assistant United States attorney in Wyoming’s U.S. Attorney’s Office since 2014. Before that, he worked for seven years as an assistant district attorney in Laramie County and represented the Division of Criminal Investigation through the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office. Forwood earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and his Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming.

“TJ’s extensive courtroom experience at all levels of Wyoming’s court system, as well as the considerable time he has spent prosecuting cases in Laramie County Circuit Court, make him well equipped to serve as a judge,” Governor Gordon said.

Forwood expressed gratitude for the appointment, which is effective Dec. 21. “I’m incredibly honored and humbled by Governor Gordon’s appointment,” he said. “The first court I worked in as a young attorney was Laramie County Circuit Court. I’m excited to return now as a judge, and I look forward to serving the people of Wyoming.”
