CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A woman who was kidnapped at gunpoint in Colorado was located and rescued at a Cheyenne motel on Wednesday.

According to a release from the Cheyenne Police Department, the incident began in Rio Blanco County, Colorado, when authorities believe Craig, Colorado resident Joseph Beecher, 48, forcibly transported a female victim to the Stage Coach Motel on Lincolnway in Cheyenne.

CPD responded to the motel around 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, where they located the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot before establishing a perimeter.

The CPD’s Joint SWAT team was called, but just before arriving a fire unrelated to the kidnapping incident broke out in a neighboring motel room.

CPD officers rescued one man from the burning room as the SWAT team was conducting a hostage rescue by entering Beecher’s room.

The female hostage was rescued and Beecher was arrested without incident, said the release.

CPD says Beecher is facing multiple charges, and the hostage has been returned to family.

There were no details on the condition of the man rescued from the burning room or the cause of the fire.
