LYMAN, Wyo. — Two Missouri men are dead following a single-vehicle crash in Uinta County near Lyman in the early morning hours on Sunday.
It was just after 2 a.m. when Keith Koehler II and Tyler Judd, headed eastbound along I-80, drifted off the road to the left and into a median near milepost 33. At that point, the driver attempted to veer back into the road but overcorrected. The trailer being carried by the vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side as the vehicle crossed the eastbound travel lanes and entered the road ditch at the exit 33 interchange.
After the truck left the roadway, it rolled onto the driver’s side. During the impact, the windshield detached, and the cab and sleeper of the truck were packed full of snow as it slid forward and down off the embankment. The deep snow solidified and trapped the driver and co-driver in the sleeper berth. Neither man could self-extricate and they were buried under approximately two feet of snow.
Due to the depth of the embankment and the darkness at the time, the vehicle was not seen by passing motorists for approximately three hours until the truck and trailer were located by Department of Transportation maintenance personnel.
Correction, Jan. 23, 2023: The men were from Missouri. The story has been corrected.
