Motorcycle rider from Netherlands dies in crash near Casper

CASPER, Wyo. — A resident from the Netherlands died after crashing a motorcycle near Casper.

According to a preliminary report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, on Friday, Aug. 2, a group of six motorcycles were heading east on US 20/26 when at mile marker 59 the lead motorcycle began to slow to navigate a turn onto the adjacent roadway. The fourth motorcycle in the group failed to slow down, hitting the rear of the third bike in the group.

During the crash, the rider of the fourth motorcycle was separated from the bike and landed in the roadway.

According to the report, the victim has been identified as Aart Groenendijk, 65, of the Netherlands.

The incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. in clear and dry conditions. Driver inattention is being cited as a possible contributing factor, the WHP said.
