CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne Police Department recently announced that officers located two missing children from Alabama.

That’s according to a social media post from the CPD, which stated that the two children were reported missing in Decatur, Alabama, and were found at the Sands Motel, located at 1022 Lincolnway in Cheyenne.

“Earlier this week, a couple with felony warrants fled Decatur, Alabama with their two children,” the post stated. “Due to allegations of child abuse, it was believed the children could be in danger. Through the investigation, detectives with the Decatur Police Department determined that the couple was driving through Cheyenne.”

The post stated that Cheyenne police officers received the information and successfully located the suspects’ vehicle in the parking lot of the Sands Motel. Officers contacted the hotel’s management to determine which room the couple was registered to.

“As officers approached their room, the couple surrendered, and both children were taken into protective custody,” the post stated. “The man and woman are now awaiting extradition back to Alabama. Due to the nature of the call, there was a large police presence in the area.”

The couple, Zachary and Leanna Varcoe, are currently being held in the Laramie County jail, pending extradition to Morgan County. The two children are in the custody of Wyoming Child Protective Services.
