CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Cheyenne Police Department has issued a warning to residents to be on the lookout for a new scam that is going around that relates to jury duty.
Their announcement on Facebook said “The Cheyenne Police Department has just learned of a scam involving someone claiming to be from the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office stating the individual has missed Jury Duty and needs to provide XXX amount of money from a money card or they will be jailed. The number they are calling on even goes to the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.”
The CPD said that one of the red flags involving scams like these is the request for money on some sort of money card. They remind the public that nobody can pay their way out of Jury Duty.
“Please continue to be aware of these scams,” The Police said.
A similar scam was recently reported in Casper, where scammers “spoofed” law enforcement phone numbers, asking people to bail loved ones out of jail.
