City may sell real estate to LCSD #1 for potential site for elementary school

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A nearly $570K proposed sales agreement between Laramie County School District #1 and The City of Cheyenne was referred to the finance committee during the January 27th City Council meeting.

The proposed says agreement says that the property the school district is looking to buy could eventually be the site of an elementary school.

The property the school district is looking at purchasing is the City of Cheyenne Recreation Neighborhood Facility, located at 610 W. 7th Street located on the south side of Cheyenne.

The Recreation Neighborhood facility which has been largely left unused since it sustained water damage from a storm in 2016.

Officials from LCSD #1 said that the hope would be to build a new facility for a combined Cole and Hebard Elementary School on possibly the acquired site.

The exact cost of the proposed sale is $569,780.

According to the proposed sales agreement, the Wyoming Schools Facilities Division (SFD) is required to approve any potential acquisition of a site for all projects with the approved facility plan of a school district, if state funds are to be used for the purchase.

The proposal goes on to say that the finalization of this agreement may not go forward without the approval of the SFD.
