CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Laramie county based performers and production companies may have a chance to put on their own performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Ballet at the Cheyenne Civic Center during the 2020 holiday season.

During the January 27th City Council meeting, a resolution was referred to the finance committee that would give residents of Cheyenne an opportunity to collaborate and put on a production of the classic ballet that would emphasize the use of local talent.

The Nutcracker Ballet has been a holiday tradition in Cheyenne for years, and typically it is produced by traveling dance companies. In 2019, for example the performance at the Cheyenne Civic Center was put on by The Moscow Ballet, which featured a company of award-winning dancers and ballerinas.

Under this proposed resolution, on years ending in even numbers, the performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Ballet would be only open for local production companies to produce.

On years ending in odd numbers the the ballet would be open to any production company.

The proposed resolution goes on to say that if no local production company has confirmed the production of “The Nutcracker Ballet” by February 28th, of an even numbered year, then the availability of to perform the ballet will be opened up to all production companies.
