CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Wyoming Writers Inc has announced that they have cancelled their 2020 Writers Conference that was set to take place in Lander, Wyoming in June.
“These times are unprecedented and require strong action if we are to protect our conference attendees,” the announcement from conference organizers said.
According to their website, The Wyoming Writers Conference began in 1974 following a writing workshop as a way to continue the conversation and create a community for writers in Wyoming.
“Covid-19 will probably still be prevalent at the start of June, and it would be remiss of Wyoming Writers to encourage members to attend a gathering that could endanger their health. In addition, our faculty is starting to cancel, and turnout to the conference would likely be low,” event organizers went on to say.
The Board of Wyoming Writers Inc. says that they are hoping to create a conference page on the website that will offer several member session videos and slides as well as a list of award and contest winners.
We are looking into using Zoom to conduct our annual meeting for those who can attend. Three board members are finishing their tenure in June, and replacements will likely need to be appointed rather than voted on,” the announcement went on to say.
Organizers say that they are hoping to keep the conference in Lander in 2021 and to shift as much of their programming to that conference as possible.
The Wyoming Department of Health provides COVID-19 case, variant, death, testing, hospital and vaccine data online. The department also shares information about how the data can be interpreted. COVID-19 safety recommendations are available from the CDC.
