CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 30-year old man was arrested by the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office on May 5th after he allegedly attacked and strangled another person in a residence in Cheyenne.
Court papers say that The Nynh Tran made his initial court appearance via video conference in Laramie County Court on May 6th, 2020, to hear the felony charges of Strangulation of a Household Member and Property Destruction read to him by Judge Denise Nau.
Tran was also read the additional misdemeanor charges of Interference with an Emergency Call, Reckless Endangering and Domestic Battery during his court appearance.
An affidavit filed in the case says that during the early morning hours of May 5th, 2020, the LCSO was dispatched to a residence on the 500 block of West Prosser Road to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance.
Upon arriving on scene, the deputies report that they could hear an active disturbance coming from inside the residence.
The deputies say that when nobody answered the door initially they looked into the windows of the residence and observed a male, who was later identified as Tran, dragging something down a hallway inside.
Court documents describe that when Tran opened the door he told deputies that he and individual inside of the residence had gotten into an argument.
Law enforcement reports that the alleged victim told them they believed Tran to have been intoxicated during their argument. They told deputies that Tran grabbed their phone and smashed it on the ground when they attempted to call 9-11 during the altercation.
The alleged victim told the deputies that they believed their phone to cost approximately $1000.
The accuser reportedly told authorities that Tran had pinned them down by placing both hands around their neck. The alleged victim described to the sheriff deputies that Tran had applied very strong pressure to their neck for approximately ten seconds, causing them to have difficulty breathing.
According to the affidavit, the accuser told law enforcement that they were afraid that Tran was going to eventually kill them during the attack.
The alleged victim said that they believed the only reason Tran stopped strangling them was that deputies had knocked on the door.
The accuser went on to tell the LCSO that after the deputies knocked on the door, Tran allegedly placed his hands over their face and told them to be quiet before attempting to drag them down the hallway and away from the front door.
Deputies say that they observed multiple injuries on the alleged victim that were consistent with their statements about how they allege that they were attacked by Tran.
Bond information was not available at this time.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
