A woman has been arrested and 69 pounds of suspected marijuana seized, following a traffic stop on Interstate 80, in Laramie County, Wyoming.
According to an affidavit released by the Laramie County Circuit Court, Illinois resident Trishca L. Clay, born in 1976, was arrested during the afternoon hours of May 9, 2020. She faces charges of Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Deliver, and Possession of Marijuana in a Felony Amount.
Both charges are felonies.
Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers say that Clay was pulled over in a passenger vehicle, near mile marker 370 of I-80 for a speed violation. Contact was made with Clay who identified herself to troopers using an Illinois driver’s license.
Troopers say that Clay was driving a registered rental car, and claimed to be returning to Illinois from the Salt Lake City area after visiting family.
Inconsistencies were found by WHP in the rental agreement, and with the reported mileage of the trip as opposed to what was showing on the odometer. The rental agency was ultimately called, and Clay was determined to not be on the rental agreement.
A WHP K9 unit arrived on the scene and the dog alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle. Troopers report that three large duffel bags were located inside the trunk, and several vacuum sealed packages of suspected marijuana were seized.
According to Circuit Court papers, the approximate weight of the marijuana, with packaging, was approximately 69 pounds.
Clay was subsequently arrested and transported to the Laramie County Jail.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
