Man faces Assault charges after allegedly attempting to cut hospital personnel with shard of glass

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 55-year old man was arrested by the Cheyenne Police Department after they allege that he tried to cut two hospital employees with a piece of broken glass.

According to court papers, Daniel Smith made his initial court appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on May 20th, 2020, to face two felony charges of Aggravated Assault & Battery.

Police say that an officer was dispatched to Cheyenne Medical Regional Center to investigate a report of an assault on May 19th, 2020.

The officer reports that they spoke to the accuser, who told them that Smith had attempted to cut their arm with a shard of broken glass, The accuser says that Smith had become irate at them while being discharged from the hospital.

“Smith pulled a piece of broken glass from his pant pocket, cut his right arm, and lunged at the medical personnel, attempting to cut them,” the affidavit filed in the case describes.

Police allege that Smith then attempted to cut another CRMC healthcare worker.

Investigators say that the piece of broken glass appeared to be from a broken bottle and was approximately 3 inches by 2 inches in size.
