CASPER, Wyo. — A wildfire west of Casper which was initially reported at about 3 pm Thursday, July 2 has been suppressed after burning about 414 acres.

Brian Oliver with the Natrona County Fire District provided updates on the situation at about 7:20 pm Thursday.

“We have it stopped and out now,” Oliver said. “We are starting to clear units and will have a truck on scene for awhile patrolling for hotspots.”

The wildfire was located east of Powder along the south side of US 20/26 between Casper and Shoshoni.

BLM Casper Field Office Public Information Officer Tyson Finnicum said during the afternoon that the fire was on a mix of private owned and BLM administered land. The fuel type for the fire was a mix of grass and sage. The fire was initially estimated at about 150 acres.

Oliver said that smoke may continue to be visible from the fire.

The BLM had two engines responding and there were two single engine air tankers stationed out of Casper responding to the wildfire as well, according to Finnicum. The Natrona County Fire District sent two brush trucks and Mills Fire Department and Bar Nunn Fire Department also responded to the fire.

The wildfire is believed to have been human caused, but Finnicum said further investigation is needed before an official determination can be made.
