Man faces charges after chase, accused of driving stolen vehicle

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 20-year old man was arrested after attempting to elude police in an allegedly stolen car during a traffic stop.

Jacob Strom was arrested by The Cheyenne Police Department on August 4th, 2020, and now faces a felony charge of Theft, and misdemeanor counts of Eluding and Interference with a Peace Officer, according to paperwork from Laramie County Circuit Court.

An affidavit filed in the case says that Strom attempted to flee police when they attempted to pull him over for a traffic stop during the early morning hours of August 4th.

“The driver failed to negotiate a left-hand turn due to excessive speed and came to a stop on the grass on the roadway, Strom fled on foot when the vehicle came to a stop,” an officer with the CPD stated in the affidavit.

Police say that the suspect was located 3 to 4 blocks away.

According to investigators the registration on the vehicle Strom was operating was run through the National Crime Information Center and came back as reported stolen out of Denver, Colorado.

Law enforcement describes the allegedly stolen vehicle as a 2004 Chevrolet Express and was said to be valued as $1100.

Wyoming statutes say that any person convicted of Felony Theft can face up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to 10k.
