CHEYENNE, Wyo. – According to court papers, a 32-year old man was arrested by the Cheyenne Police Department on the allegation that he struck a child in the face.
Police say that during the afternoon hours of August 11th, 2020, officers were dispatched to a location within the city limits of Cheyenne to investigate a report of a physical disturbance.
According to the affidavit filed in the case, officers made contact with a parent who alleged that Armando Butler hit their child in the face.
They told police that Butler came up, opened the door, and told the child to exit a parked vehicle they were sitting in. The parent alleged that Butler then struck their child in the face after they refused to get out of the car.
The parent told officers that Butler had no legal guardianship of their child.
Officers reported in the affidavit to observing minor bleeding on the child’s face.
Armando Butler made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Friday, August 14th, 2020 to hear the recommended charge of Child Abuse read to him by Judge Thomas Lee.
If convicted of the felony charge, Butler could face up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to 10k.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
