CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A local theater company isn’t going to let a little thing like a global pandemic keep them from their mission of bringing performing arts to Cheyenne.

The True Troupe, a Cheyenne-based theater group operating in its third year, is set to take the stage tonight in Cheyenne to perform its newest show: William Shakespeare’s comedy “Twelfth Night.

Twelfth Night will be the company’s third Shakespearian performance they have collaborated on.  True Troupe founder Adrianna True said she is drawn to the work of Shakespeare because of how timeless it is.

“Shakespeare’s stories span generations, lifetimes even. Each story displays a different perspective, set of characters, and a new world for us to explore and enjoy,” True said.

Twelfth Night made it’s Cheyenne debut last night, Thursday, August 27th, and will continuie to run 28th and 29th at the Lions Park Amphitheater.

All showtimes are 6:30 p.m.

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the theater group is requesting that audiences bring their own chairs, socially distance themselves from other audience members, and wear masks if they wish.

Audiences who are sick are encouraged to stay home and watch our production online at a later date.

The company also is performing the show on the 30th in Pine Bluffs at 5:30 p.m. at City Park.

True added that they are put on their Shakespeare Classics in the Park series for two reasons.

“The first being that we love bringing to life works that many people would think are just “boring, outdated” stories. The second being that because Shakespeare can be adapted for each situation, depending on how we are showcasing our season,” True said.

True Troupe’s Twelfth Night is being directed by Erin Kendall.

According to True, this is Kendall’s sixth Troupe production. She most recently appeared in the 1920’s Cabaret. Kendall has been involved in theater since high school and has locally appeared in and worked behind the scenes of CLTP and True Troupe productions. She has assistant directed twice but this is her first production as director.

When asked about the cast for Twelfth Night, True did not hold back on her enthusiasm for it’s diversity.

“Our cast members come from varied backgrounds, social classes, interests, and many other factors that help give us such a colorful and unique cast,” True said.

She went on to say that she another thing she found nteresting about this cast was that they have all been in at least one True Troupe production, and that is fairly uncommon for our shows.

“Most of our casts always feature at least one member who is new to our company. This cast has all performed at least one show. I think part of this is due to the pandemic, but we are always open and welcoming of all new artists!”

True said that what keeps her coming back to putting on these theatrical productions is her passion for community.

“With theatre, we all come together and create an amazing production that comes alive with our cast, crew, and production team. I have always loved directing productions, and taking a backseat this year to watch others direct has been an absolute joy to get to see that same passion and energy from other people within this community.” True said.

Here are the details for the True Troupes upcoming performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night:

After Viola escapes a nasty shipwreck she dresses up like a man to find work and a ridiculous story unfolds. Love triangles, mistaken identities, insane pranks…If there’s one thing Shakespeare understood better than anyone else it’s that we’re all fools for love.
