I-80 records wind gusts near 70 mph in SE Wyoming

CASPER, Wyo. — There is an “extreme blow over risk” advisory in effect on I-80 between Laramie and Elk Mountain on Wednesday morning.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation says that section of I-80 is closed to light, high profile vehicles.

The National Weather Service in Cheyenne said that the Arlington area along I-80 recorded a wind gut of 68 mph in the early morning hours.

Gusts are exceeding 60 mph in some areas as of around 10:15 am, according to WYDOT.

The NWS in Cheyenne says that high wind warnings in the area will remain in effect through 5 pm Wednesday.

Extreme blow over risk advisories are also in effect on other highways, according to WYDOT:

  • US 287 between Laramie and Medicine Bow
  • US 30 between Laramie and Medicine Bow

Highways leading to the south boundary of Yellowstone National Park near Jackson are seeing some closures due to winter conditions.
