CASPER, Wyo. — Level 1 Chain Law is in effect Tuesday on Teton Pass between Wilson and the Idaho state line, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

WYDOT adds that no trailer traffic is allowed on that section of WYO 22.

There are two levels of chain law in Wyoming. WYDOT says Level 1 restricts travel to:

  • Vehicles equipped with tire chains; or
  • Vehicles with adequate snow tires; or
  • All-wheel-drive vehicles.

Level 2 Chain Law restricts travel to:

  • Vehicles equipped with tire chains; or
  • All-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with adequate mud and snow or all-weather-rated tires.

Under Level 2, commercial vehicles are required to have chains “on at least two of the drive wheels at opposite ends of the same drive axle.”

Road condition information is available from WYDOT.
