CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 53-year-old man was arrested by the Cheyenne Police Department after it was alleged that he attacked and subsequently injured another person with a 24-inch machete.
Paperwork filed in Laramie County Circuit Court says that on November 29th, 2020, officers with the Cheyenne Police Department responded to a 911 hang-up and disturbance call at a residence in Cheyenne.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case, officers say that when they arrived on scene they made contact with an accuser who alleged that Jay Allen had attacked them with a machete after breaking down the door of their residence.
The accuser told authorities that they heard someone “kick in” their door and went out into the living room with their 24-inch machete in hand. They advised police that is when they saw Allen and another individual inside of their residence.
Court papers say that the accuser told authorities that they used the machete to attempt to scare Allen and the other person out of their home.
According to the accuser, they dropped the machete when Allen rushed them. The alleged victim went on to describe to law enforcement that they attempted to restrain Allen from behind during the physical altercation. The accuser alleged that was when Allen used the machete to stab them.
The accuser stated that they let go of Allen when they observed that they were bleeding, the affidavit reported.
Police say that the accuser was transported to CRMC to receive treatment for injuries. According to authorities, the accuser had various lacerations on their hand, face, and back of head that required medical care.
According to arrest information, Allen has been previously convicted on a 1988 Burglary charge as well as a Vehicular Homicide charge in 2000. Both convictions are reported as being out of Natrona County.
Court paperwork says that Allen made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Monday, January 11th, 2021, to hear recommended charges of Aggravated Assault – Bodily Injury with a Weapon, Unlawful Entry into Occupied Structure, and Habitual Criminal read to him.
If convicted on all felony counts, Allen could face up to 70 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $20k.
Allen was given a bond of $50,000 cash.
