CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon expressed gratitude on Monday for the work of teachers throughout the pandemic.

“Teachers change lives and their tireless efforts and dedication to their students throughout this pandemic has been remarkable,” Gordon said via Twitter. “May 3-7 is #TeacherAppreciationWeek and I congratulate all our Wyoming teachers for their commitment.”

The Wyoming Department of Education said in a memo released Monday that they are inviting schools to celebrate this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week with “Kudos for Teachers.”

“There is no shortage of reasons to celebrate teachers; however, this year has shown us more than ever how impactful teachers are and continue to be,” WDE Chief Policy Officer Kari Eakins said in the memo. “Over the last year, teachers have had to completely change the way they teach. Wyoming teachers have risen to this challenge and are restructuring education to be offered inside and outside the physical walls of a school.”

Superintendent Jillian Balow is challenging people to use the hashtag #KudosforTeachers throughout the week to show appreciation for teachers in their lives.

Gordon is expected to sign a “Teacher Appreciation Week Proclamation” at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 encouraging everyone in Wyoming to celebrate teachers, according to the Wyoming Department of Education.
