CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne City Council members are considering a resolution that would require the City of Cheyenne to study local traffic enforcement issues.
The resolution requests that the City Engineer’s Office, in conjunction with the Cheyenne Police Department, identify, study and analyze areas within the city where occurrences of speeding vehicles and vehicles running red lights are most serious. One area of concern is Gardenia Drive, which is located in north Cheyenne, according to the agenda item.
“Being the most populated city [in Wyoming], Cheyenne has an increased amount of vehicle
traffic and congestion, which in turn causes an increased amount of traffic enforcement issues,” the resolution states.
After studying the areas, the agencies will need to provide recommendations for improvement, including implementing additional traffic control devices or automated enforcement systems such as speed and red light cameras. A list of the most appropriate devices and most qualified vendors and service providers will also be included, along with estimates on any associated costs.
The results and recommendations will be compiled into a report and submitted to the governing body on or by Dec. 31.
The resolution, sponsored by Councilmembers Bryan Cook, Pete Laybourn and Tom Segrave, will head to the Public Service Committee next week for further discussion and a recommendation.
