GILLETTE, Wyo. — Wyoming was recognized as a finalist in the recent American Academy for National Recreation and Park Administrations Gold Medal Award program.

Considered the highest honor in the field of park and recreation management, the NRPA Gold Medal Award is given in recognition of exceptional park systems across the United States. The winner must demonstrate excellence in providing outstanding recreational experiences and maintain high standards not only in park management but also innovation, per an Oct. 11 press release.

While the State Parks Gold Medal went to Texas this time around, Wyoming State Parks placed in the top four and was presented with a finalist award, reaffirming the dedication and hard work invested by the entire team in preserving and enhancing the state’s national treasures, the release states.

Acting Director of Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources Dave Glenn offered his congratulations to Texas on winning the award and expressed his gratitude to the Wyoming staff for their hard work to create safe and enjoyable experiences in Wyoming state parks and historic areas.

“While we lack the personnel and financial resources of other state parks agencies nationwide, I can say we have the most talented, passionate, and hardest working parks and historic site staff in the country,” Glenn said in a statement. “I’m proud of their dedication towards sharing Wyoming’s history and natural resources with Wyomingites and Wyoming’s visitors.”

State parks in Wyoming boast a diverse range of outdoor spaces offering visitors a wide array of recreational activities, from hiking and fishing to camping and wildlife observation. The release says Wyoming is home to iconic landscapes that attract millions of visitors each year.

“The NRPA Gold Medal Award recognition highlights the state’s success in preserving these treasures while providing unparalleled experiences to park visitors,” Wyoming State Parks said in the release.
