CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The search is on for a new Laramie County School District 1 superintendent.
During its Monday meeting, the LCSD1 Board of Trustees unanimously voted to utilize $6,500 for Superintendent Search Services provided by Wyoming School Board Association, or WSBA. The amount is the typical service cost for WSBA members.
The services will help assist the school board in recruiting, selecting and developing the district’s next leader. WSBA staff will be available to help trustees identify the desired qualifications and expectations for the new superintendent, develop and post advertisement materials statewide and nationally, create a timetable covering events from initial recruitment to contract signing, establish a process for collecting staff and community feedback about each candidate and create and format interview questions.
The board voted during its Sept. 11 meeting to approve the appointment of Stephen Newton as the district’s interim superintendent of schools. Newton, who has spent nearly 30 years in the education field, will serve as interim superintendent through June 2024.
Newton has been the district’s acting superintendent since August, when Margaret Crespo resigned from the position. The decision came after Crespo and her leadership team began receiving staff complaints including harassment toward staff, fostering an unsafe work environment, marginalization of minority groups and discrimination on the basis of gender.
