DOUGLAS, Wyo. — A collision amid a blizzard on WY 59 near Douglas claimed the life of a Wyoming resident, Steven Amble, age 60. The Wyoming Highway Patrol reported that the incident involved five vehicles and occurred on Dec. 23 at 7:34 p.m.
A Dodge Ram 1500, headed north near milepost 27, collided head-on with a southbound GMC Sierra on an icy bridge with limited visibility. The exact cause of the vehicles crossing the center line remains unclear, according to the report.
Following the initial crash, a southbound Cadillac DTS hit the Dodge Ram’s passenger side. The Dodge then struck the bridge rail. The Sierra ended up facing west in the northbound lane, its rear colliding with the bridge deck guard rail.
A Honda Civic, also southbound, managed to pull over before a Dodge Ram 2500 clipped it, disabling the Civic on the shoulder. The Dodge Ram 2500 then rear-ended the Cadillac, causing it to side-swipe the first Dodge Ram. The vehicles came to rest scattered across the road.
Amble was the sole fatality. He was using a seatbelt. Five others involved in the crash were not injured.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, citing speed and driver fatigue as possible contributing factors. Road conditions, including ice and snow, played a role in this event, according to the report.
