Community, first responders unite to save cattle in I-80 accident

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — In a remarkable display of community collaboration, multiple agencies responded to an accident involving a cattle hauler on Interstate 80 near Pine Bluffs early this morning.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol received a distress call about an overturned cattle truck carrying 72 head of cattle. Responding to the scene, they found the vehicle had trapped the cattle inside, according to the WHP’s social media report.

The driver had sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. After 3.5 hours, the team successfully extricated 61 live cattle from the overturned trailer.

Laramie County Fire Districts #5, #3 and #4, along with AMR – Cheyenne Pine Bluffs EMS, Pine Bluffs Police, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol and Wyoming Brand Inspectors, worked tirelessly in the rescue operation. Support from local ranchers, Express Towing, Hockersmith Farms and Dr. Amy Nicodemus with Bluffs Veterinary Clinic was crucial.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol and Laramie County Fire District #5 expressed their deep gratitude to all the individuals and entities involved. Their cooperation and quick action were pivotal in averting a worse outcome.
