CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation has announced the closure of Interstate 25 / US 87 in both directions between Cheyenne and Wheatland due to severe winter conditions and multiple crashes. The closures, effective as of 11:12 a.m. on Feb. 16, have put a halt to traffic, affecting commuters and travelers.

In a bid to ensure safety and expedite the reopening of the roads, WYDOT has issued a prohibition against parking on the roadway. The agency emphasizes that vehicles parked on the road not only pose a risk to safety but also delay WYDOT’s efforts to clear the roads and restore access.

As crews work to address the winter weather, WYDOT estimates the reopening time to be within 7–9 hours from the initial closure announcement. Travelers are urged to seek alternative routes and plan for significant delays as the state grapples with clearing the roads.
