GILLETTE, Wyo. — State residents may apply for a $5,000 visual arts, performing arts or creative writing fellowship through the Wyoming Arts Council, with the application period for each open as of April 10.
Per the WAC, all applications must be in by June 10 and each one will be juried by noted artists and professionals from the pertinent field who reside outside Wyoming. All fellowship recipients will receive a $5,000 award and an opportunity to showcase their work in the state.
Visual Arts Fellowships are chosen based on the artist’s portfolio for work reflecting serious and exceptional investigation, the WAC says, adding that works of any medium may be submitted for up to three fellowships each year. This year, the visual arts jurors are Libby Garon and Ginger Porcella.
Performing Arts Fellowships honor excellence in the artists’ field and are based on appropriate media samples in addition to artist statements, per the WAC. Up to four fellowships may be awarded — two for music and two for theater and dance — with Cecillia Pang and Craig Hill acting as jurors.
Creative Writing Fellowships are awards of merit based on a writer’s body of work, the WAC says. The fellowships honor Wyoming’s literary artists whose work demonstrates exceptional writing. One fellowship each will be awarded for poetry, creative nonfiction and fiction, for a total of up to three fellowships. This year, Vauhini Vara will juror for fiction, Julie Carr will juror for poetry and Erika Krouse will juror for nonfiction.
All applications can be submitted online through the Wyoming Arts Council website.
