State corrections announces death of inmate

WDOC inmate John Murphy died in custody in Mississippi (WDOC)

CASPER, Wyo. — On Monday, the Wyoming Department of Corrections announced the death of inmate John Murphy on June 1.

Murphy was housed at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi. Murphy died at the Northwest Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Murphy was convicted in Converse County of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor [W.S. 6-2-3159(a)(ii)] and sexual exploitation of a child (W.S. 6-4-303(b)(ii)] on April 27, 2022. Murphy’s sentences ran consecutively for a total maximum of 24 years.

Murphy was born in Hancock, New York, on July 28, 1950.

“Per WDOC policy an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. WDOC does not release protected health information,” the release said.
