PHOTOS: Plane flips upon emergency landing in Albany County; minor cuts for pilot

The pilot managed to land successfully, but the plane flipped due to the rugged terrain, the Albany County Sheriff's Office said.

CASPER, Wyo. — The pilot of a fixed-wing plane sustained minor cuts but “is in good condition” Wednesday after a controlled crash on Windy Ridge Road on Wednesday, according to a release by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies determined that the engine failed after the pilot inadvertently turned the fuel switch to the “off” position. The pilot managed to land successfully, but the plane flipped due to the rugged terrain, the release said.

“We are thankful that this unfortunate incident didn’t end in tragedy. Like they say: ‘All is well that ends well!’” the ACSO said.

The ACSO thanked partner agencies at Albany County, WY Emergency Management, the Vedauwoo Volunteer Fire Department, Albany County Fire District # 1 Central, the Big Laramie Fire Department and the Laramie Fire Department for their quick response and assistance.
