GILLETTE, Wyo. — In its monthly report on visitor statistics, Yellowstone National Park reported September visitor numbers were slightly higher than in September last year.
The park hosted 852,435 recreational visitors in September, making its year-to-date visitation a whopping 4,349,689 visits so far in 2024.
The figure marks a 2% increase in visitation from September 2023. Overall, park visitation is still ahead of visit numbers from 2023 as well, up by 5% from that year.
2021, though, still takes the cake for the top visitation in recent years, when many parks saw a boom in visits following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in parks being shuttered for a time in 2020. Yellowstone in particular was closed from late March to mid-May of that year.
Compared to 2021 figures, visits are down by 3% so far.
