DUBOIS, Wyo. — Since the unseasonably late ignition of a series of wildfires across Wyoming in September, the U.S. Forest Service has been providing near-daily updates on fire conditions and the efforts of crews involved in fighting the fires. Today, those updates are ending in western Wyoming, where the Bridger-Teton National Forest has updated state residents on the Pack Trail Fire for over a month.

According to the U.S. Forest Service – Bridger-Teton National Forest‘s most recent, and final, fire update, the practice is ending as the fire is. The Pack Trail Fire is 95% contained — with the remaining 5% along steep terrain largely inaccessible by crews — and expected snowfall is likely to stamp the rest out.

That doesn’t mean the fire is completely out, though. The Forest Service clarified that the area is under a “patrol and monitor status” as smoke and heat persist within the fire’s interior.

“The fire will be monitored by the Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests as needed,” the Forest Service said. “Winter weather and increased fuel moistures should continue to reduce any threats of continuing fire activity.”

The post added that all suppression repair activity, which has been an ongoing procedure as long as the fire has been active, is now completed in all applicable areas.

This also means that the area has been completely reopened. All road closures, evacuation orders and forest closure orders, which were originally slated to last through Nov. 15, are lifted. The Forest Service still recommends visitors exercise extreme caution traveling, enjoying campfires, flying drones and otherwise enjoying the natural and rugged beauty of Wyoming.

As aforementioned, daily updates from the Pack Trail Fire are no longer coming. However, as wildfires are a near-yearly occurrence across the western United States, it is recommended that residents stay informed through the Bridger-Teton National Forest Facebook page.
