CASPER, Wyo. — Some of the 240 Wyoming Department of Corrections inmates that were moved to the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Mississippi last year have returned to Wyoming.
According to the WDOC release on Thursday, staff vacancies in the state corrections department necessitated the relocation.
“Currently, staffing has slightly improved and the WDOC was able to move sixty (60) inmates back to WDOC operated facilities on November 6, 2024,” the WDOC release said. “Although staffing has allowed the movement of some inmates, TCCF will continue to house 166 inmates for the WDOC until the Department is able to return all WDOC inmates. The Department continues to focus on recruitment and retention of correctional officers.”
The department said the relocation went without incident with the cooperation of the Laramie Regional Airport, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, Laramie Police Department, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
