CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Nominations are now open for the Second Annual Mary Humstone Excellence in Historic Preservation Awards.
That’s according to a press release from the Alliance for Historic Wyoming, which states that these awards are in conjunction with Historic Preservation Month, taking place in May.
“These awards will celebrate projects, individuals, organizations, or businesses that have made a positive impact on the historic preservation movement in Wyoming,” the release states. “The Alliance is seeking nominations from the public to recognize those who have contributed to their mission to preserve and protect Wyoming’s historic places and spaces in exceptional ways.”
According to the release, last year’s recipient was Jackie Dorothy of Thermopolis. Dorothy was selected for her work to create the 1920s Middleton School Immersion program at the Hot Springs County Museum.
“After the Middleton School was restored to its appearance from the 1920s, visiting 3rd and 4th graders can experience an authentic 1920s one-room school house’s daily curriculum,” the release states. “This year, the Alliance will honor two award recipients after establishing a second category for organizations and businesses.”
Nominations are due by March 31 and selection will take place in early April by a panel of staff from the Alliance for Historic Wyoming.
In May, AHW staff will travel to the communities of the selected recipients to present the award. AHW asks that self-nominations not be submitted.
“The Awards are named in honor of AHW founding board member, Mary Humstone, a stalwart preservation advocate in Wyoming since the 1980s,” the release states. “For over four decades, she has set a high standard of excellence in Wyoming’s historic preservation community, and these awards honor that legacy.”
