CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office has issued a scam alert warning to residents about a wave of deceptive scam calls. Reportedly, scammers are impersonating the sheriff’s office, tricking residents with false claims of warrants and demanding credit card numbers for bond payments.

These scammers, falsely identifying as representatives of the sheriff’s office, are threatening people with arrest if they fail to provide credit card details to cover alleged warrants, according to the alert.

In response to these reports, the LCSO has clarified its position.

“The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office will never ask you for personal information or any form of payment over the phone,” an alert from the LCSO states, urging residents to protect themselves against this scam.

These scam calls, generally originating from outside the local jurisdiction, are not actively investigated by any agency, complicating efforts to trace and stop the perpetrators.

Residents with questions or information about these scams are encouraged to call 307-633-4751. Those who have unfortunately fallen victim to these scams and lost money are advised to contact 307-637-6524 to speak with a deputy and file a report.
