Superintendent hopeful Michael Hamel to engage with Cheyenne community, LCSD1 board

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Laramie County School District 1 is almost to the final leg of its superintendent selection process, with Michael Hamel, a seasoned education professional, set to undergo an extensive interview on Jan. 31.

Hamel’s schedule involves touring local schools and engaging with both district and community stakeholders. His experience spans 35 years, with his current role as superintendent of schools for Carbon County School District 1 in Rawlins.

Looking to foster transparency and community involvement, LCSD1 has arranged a community forum from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Storey Gym Boardroom, 2811 House Ave. Community-submitted questions will be addressed, providing insight into Hamel’s vision and approach. For broader accessibility, the forum will be livestreamed on Zoom.

The day concludes with a private executive session interview with the LCSD1 Board of Trustees, scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Hamel, a University of Wyoming doctoral candidate, has a rich background in educational leadership. His résumé reveals a strong focus on improving student outcomes and effective school management. Hamel’s leadership in Carbon County School District 1 stands out, with significant advancements in student achievement under his tenure.

Notably, Hamel’s contributions extend beyond academics. He is a member of various educational boards and has been recognized for his service, including induction into the University of Wyoming Athletics Hall of Fame and receiving the Wyoming DARE Administrator of the Year award.
