CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Freedom Elementary has dedicated April to honor military children with a series of engaging events and an art project that spans the entire month. The school’s efforts coincide with the Month of the Military Child, celebrating the resilience of military families.

Breanna Hauger, the school’s art teacher, leads a unique art project that involves students leaving their handprints, creating a cumulative artwork to symbolize unity and support.

The series of events kicks off on April 12 with Wyoming Purple Up Day, encouraging students and staff to don purple attire in solidarity with military families.

The excitement escalates on April 17 as a Black Hawk helicopter lands on the playground, offering students a close-up view of military aviation. The day also brings in military leaders who will join the students for lunch, adding a personal touch to the celebrations.

Subsequent days are packed with activities. The Central High Cheerleaders and Pep Band, along with service members, will create a spirited welcome for students.

Presentations from Marine Corps service members on flag folding and performances by the Central High Chamber Orchestra further enrich the program. The younger students have a treat in store with the F.E. Warren EOD Team’s demonstrations, tailored to different age groups.

As the month draws to a close, Freedom Elementary introduces students to the latest in military technology with the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle demonstration and interactions with Security Forces’ vehicles and the K-9 unit. These events not only entertain but also educate, offering insights into the lives of those in service.
