CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Laramie County School District 1’s Elevate Athletics is calling on community members to become elementary sports coaches for the 2024–25 season. The district is currently seeking coaches for football, volleyball, basketball and track and field. The program is open to fifth- and sixth-grade students across the district, with track and field extending to fourth-grade students.
Applicants interested in coaching can apply for positions at their preferred elementary school. Head coaches will earn $750 per sport, or $3,000 for all four seasons. Assistant coaches will receive $500 per sport, or $2,000 for the full schedule. Those unable to commit to the entire program are also encouraged to volunteer as sports coaches, with volunteer roles coordinated through individual school principals. No certification is required, but applicants must pass a background check. Interested individuals can apply at www.laramie1.org.
The time commitment is manageable, with practices held for just one hour, four days a week, over a six-week season. Each practice includes both skill development and a weekly sportsmanship lesson. The program culminates in celebratory events hosted at local high schools, giving students the chance to showcase their skills across different schools within the district.
Football will be the first season, running from Sept. 3 to Oct. 9. Volleyball follows from Oct. 15 to Nov. 20, and basketball will occur from Jan. 13 to Feb. 20. The final season, track and field, will run from March 17 to May 1.
This program emphasizes not just physical activity but also teamwork and sportsmanship. Each coach will receive a guidebook with practice plans, standards and drills.
