CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Some students will continue to receive special education services through the public school district.

During its first meeting of the school year Monday night, the Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees approved a handful of contracts for school supplies, as well as agreement to hire a maintenance contractor.

The board approved to renew its $900,000 contract with the Northeast Wyoming Board of Cooperating Education Services. Superintendent Stephen Newton explained that the contract provides residential placement services to around seven students who require a higher level of care.

Trustees also approved a $700,000 contract to bring on an access control contractor for the district. Newton said the control employee will be in charge of handling door access throughout the district, as well as maintaining and programming equipment associated with keyed entrances and exits.

“It’s a very complex system to know who should be going into and out of our schools and at which ones and at which times,” Newton said.

As part of its consent agenda, the school board also renewed contracts for school supplies with the following organizations:

  • A $75,000 contract for art supplies with Blick Art Materials LLC, Discount School Supply, Kaplan Early Learning Company, Lakeshore Learning Materials LLC, Quill LLC and Really Good Stuff.
  • A $500,000 contract for classroom supplies with Blick Art Materials LLC, Bluum USA Inc., Booksource, Demco Inc., Discount School Supply, EAI Education, Global Equipment Company Inc., Just Right Reader Inc., Kaplan Early Learning Company, Lakeshore Learning Materials LLC, Pitsco Education LLC, Quill LLC, Really Good Stuff and Textbook Warehouse.
  • A $300,000 contract for physical education supplies on a percentage discount basis with Advanced Exercise, BSN Sports LLC, Kaplan Early Learning Company, Lakeshore Learning Materials LLC, MFAC LLC, Quill, LLC, Riddell / All American and US Games.

The district will hold its next school board meeting Monday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. in the Board of Trustees meeting room inside Storey Gym, 2811 House Ave.
