Phyllis Augusta Cooney

(Phyllis Augusta Cooney)Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away January 4, 2022, at Davis Hospice Center surrounded by family.

Phyllis was born August 21, 1933, in Lindbergh, WY, to August and Anna (Knuth) Wiese. She married her high school sweetheart, Merlin Cooney, on March 21, 1953, and eight children were born to this union. She was proud of her life as a farmer’s wife and mother and her family will be forever grateful for the example she set. 

Phyllis enjoyed her card clubs and the time she spent with her Pastime Club, the Texas Trail Museum and St. Paul’s CCW.  However, her favorite activities revolved around her children and grandchildren. Her family meant the world to her.

She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Bob) Reed of Pine Bluffs, Kevin (Dana) Cooney of Ogallala, NE, Tim Cooney of Pine Bluffs, Coleen (Gary) Sides of Sterling, CO, Gerald (Paula) Cooney of Loveland, CO, Maureen (David) Kinkade of Cheyenne, Carleen (Matt) Bullinger of Ogden, UT, and Gayleen (Joe) Knopp of O’Neill, NE; 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren (4 on the way), and six nieces and nephews, and one brother-in-law, Lee Gillespie, of Cheyenne, WY.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and sisters: Elaine Martens, Evelyn Schumann, Roberta Gillespie and June Wiese (infant).

Services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs.  The rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral liturgy at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to:  St. Paul’s Church (Box 97, Pine Bluffs, WY 82082), Pine Bluffs Senior Center (Box 532, Pine Bluffs, WY 82082), or St. Joseph Children’s Home (Box 1117, Torrington, WY 82240).

Cremation is under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home, located at 2222 Russell Avenue, Cheyenne.


Joseph DiJohn

Joseph “Joe” DiJohn, 79, of Cheyenne passed away January 10, 2021 surrounded by family.

Joe was born September 19, 1942 in Monroe, Michigan to Angelo and Mary DiJohn. He married Ginger DiJohn on June 25, 1966 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Joe served honorably in the United States Army.

Joe is survived by his wife, Ginger DiJohn; daughter, Melanie DiJohn; son, Aaron (Barb) DiJohn of Cheyenne; grandchildren, Christina DiJohn, Danielle (Jacob) Siskey, Samantha DiJohn, Anthony DiJohn, and Ty DiJohn.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Mary DiJohn; and brothers, Sandy and Anthony DiJohn, and a sister, Dolly Stadelman.

Cremation is under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home, located at 2222 Russell Avenue, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001.


Paul Bryan Madden

Paul Bryan Madden, 58, of Pine Bluffs, died on January 10, 2022.

He was born on September 28, 1963 in Kimball, Nebraska.

Paul grew up Pine Bluffs, WY and graduated high school from Pine Bluffs High School is 1982. Paul met the love of his life, Carol, and they were married in June 2006. He was a great family man and enjoyed watching and helping raise his grandchildren, Skyler, Delanie, Sterling, Ashley, Hannah, and Nemo. He was their biggest fan. Paul was a Husker fan through and through. He loved all sports especially March Madness and Monday night wrestling. Paul was a “great couch coach” while watching his favorite football teams. He loved his Ford pickups. Paul loved his job and was a very hard worker. 28 years ago, he helped build the barns at his workplace and continued his dedicated service at that facility. He was a very fun loving and loyal friend. Paul will be missed by many.

Paul is survived by his wife Carol Madden of Pine Bluffs; children, Trina Wallowing Bull, Jessica Wallowing Bull, Christopher (Dettie) Begay, Austin Begay, and Inez Begay; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; siblings,: Bonnie (Dirk) Daugherty of Arapahoe, Oklahoma, Mike (Carolyn) Madden of Cheyenne, WY, Cheryl Madden of Concordia, Kansas, Chris (Vonnie) Madden of Las Vegas, Nevada, Steve Madden of Pine Bluffs, WY, and Jason (Char) Madden of Pine Bluffs, WY; many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Jacqueline Madden; grandparents, Roscoe “Rox” and Eudean Madden; grandparents, Aldrich “Al” and Inez Nadeau; one great granddaughter; and one niece, Susan Daugherty.

Graveside services will be Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at the Pine Bluffs Cemetery with a reception to immediately follow at the Pine Bluffs Community Center.


Carolyn Jane Nelson

Carolyn Jane (Patras) Nelson

September 1, 1942-January 8, 2022 (age 79)

Carolyn Jane Nelson, 79 was born September 1, 1942, in Worland, Wyoming and passed away January 8, 2022, surrounded by her family in her home in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  Carol graduated from Ten Sleep High School, Ten Sleep Wyoming.  On February 27, 1964, she married Alvin Nelson.  Carol and Alvin Nelson resided in the Big Horn Basin where they farmed and raised their family.  Carol loved learning.  She began her college degree by taking night classes and then went to Eastern Montana College in 1988 where she earned her BA in social work.  She worked as a social worker for Washakie County Youth Alternatives in Worland, Wyoming helping countless youth. Carol was an avid reader, loved dancing and anytime she could get a group of people together there was a rousing game of cards being played.  One of her greatest joys was being Granny and having grandkids visit.  Carol and Alvin moved to Cheyenne in 2007. 

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Eunice (Compton) Patras, her brother Byant and her sister, Zelda Dean Patras.  Carol is survived by her brother Tom (Cyndi) Patras: her sister, Sally (Rob) Maurer; sons, Leonard (Sara), Michael (Jerri) and Donald (Molly) Nelson; daughter, Fawn (Dave) Bartlett; grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Morgan, Elizabeth, Michaela, Lindsey, Tevis, Gunner and Keagan; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and Grayson.

No arrangements have been made but a celebration of life will be held later.
