John L. Alden: 1941 – 2024
John Lee Alden, 82, of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away in his home on January 5, 2024. Born on April 14, 1941 in Ericson, Nebraska, John was the third of three children born to John Louis Alden and Bernice B. Weigel Alden.
In 1942, the Alden family moved to Cheyenne so that John’s dad could work in the Union Pacific Railroad Roundhouse. As a boy and a young man, John would return every summer to the Amelia, Nebraska area to work on the Lee Ranch, which was managed by John’s uncle and aunt. During his time in Nebraska, John made several life long friendships.
In Cheyenne, John attended school at Hebard Elementary and Carey Junior High. John graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1960. While attending Carey Junior High, John met his future wife, Kathy Jo Hehr. John and Kathy were married on February 3, 1963 in Cheyenne. They welcomed two daughters, Kymbrlye and Traci.
In 1961, John started his career at the Frontier Refinery in Cheyenne. John started as a laborer in the yard and worked his way up to a heavy equipment operator. After a 45-year career at Frontier Refinery, John retired in 2007.
John had many hobbies including sports, hunting, fishing and wood working. John was an artist with whatever he touched and created many family heirlooms, including cradles and rocking horses for all of his grandchildren. John also enjoyed traveling with various members of his family, including trips to Iceland, parts of Europe, Canada, Hawaii and many other states. Later in life, John felt it was extremely crucial that he and Kathy travel throughout Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, South Dakota and Wyoming to clean the graves and place Kathy’s handmade wreaths on the gravestones of their relatives and friends.
With all of John’s life events, the most important thing to him above all else was loving, caring for and spending time with his family. John and his family worked together on countless projects over the years. In 1974, John and Kathy purchased a brand-new Dodge W100 4×4 pickup and after many years of camping and hunting trips, John and his family eventually restored the truck in 2010.
John is survived by Kathy, his wife of 60 years; daughter, Kymbrlye Freeman and son-in-law, Brad Freeman; daughter, Traci Bus and son-in-law, Jim Bush; granddaughter, Victoria Bush; grandson, Mickale Bush; grandson, Patrick Bush; great-granddaughter, Poppy BushHill; sister, Marlene Zumo; and brother-in-law, Pasco Zumo, all of Cheyenne; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William “Billy” Alden; mother-in-law, Beuna Metzler; father-in-law, Edward Metzler; brothers-in-law, Loni Hehr, Kerry Hehr, Jack Metzler, Jerry Metzler, Don Metzler; and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation has taken place at Wiederspahn Radomsky. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wiederspahn Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes, 1900 E. 19th Street, Cheyenne, Wyoming. A reception will take place at The Gathering Place (across the street from the chapel) from 3:00-5:00 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Cindy Lee McCormick: 1953 – 2024
Born in Powell, Wyoming on November 4, 1953 Cindy was the fourth daughter of Darlene and Clifford Asay. During her time at Powell High School Cindy participated in Speech and Debate, during this time she also developed her skills for cooking. Throughout her life, Cindy was almost always found in the kitchen making amazing sweets with her family. She would go on to graduate from high school in 1972 and then marry her high school sweetheart Robert T. McCormick. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Oakland, California Temple. Cindy and Robert would have two sons: Robert, and Benjamin. During her husband’s career in the Army and as an active-duty member of the Wyoming National Guard, the family lived in Monterey, California, West Germany, Oregon, Cheyenne, Rocksprings, and Casper, Wyoming.
Throughout her life, she took many titles: sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, storyteller, and teacher. She was always proud of her family, besides taking on these roles she also worked as a genealogist where she helped future Asay’s and McCormick’s learn of their heritage in the Mormon faith as far back as early LDS Pioneers. In her professional life, Cindy worked as a librarian sharing her love of education with many.
A constant in Cindy’s life was her faith, she showed a deep love for her church; the Latter Day Saints. She expressed her devotion by sharing her talents on the organ and piano. With Cindy’s big heart, she helped many rediscover their faith far and wide. Both Cindy and Bob served in the Fort Collins Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and her community! Through her faith, love, and talent she shared many gifts with those around her. She was a bright light that will be missed by many.

She is survived by her spouse, Robert Treacy McCormick; her sons, Robert Kelly McCormick, and Benjamin Morris McCormick Sr. Her grandchildren are Cassi Ganatos, Nathan McCormick, Ginger Daile McCormick, Benjamin Morris McCormick JR, Treacy Wayne McCormick, and Hazel Lucile McCormick. Her great-grandchildren are Lilly Ganatos and Jed Ganatos. Her sisters Mary Ann Sainsbury, Donnie Monk, and Sherri Stewart.
Blessed are all they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Randy Layne Moore: 1951 – 2024
Randy Layne Moore, 72, of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away at home on January 8, 2024. Randy was born to Karl Thredgold Moore and Shirley Bjerke Hardman, in Ogden, Utah, April 18, 1951. He attended Ben Lomond High School and Weber State University. He married Emma Delores Spencer on August 10, 1973, in the Ogden Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming shortly after and raised their family there for over 30 years. He was a stone mason and memorialist who thoroughly loved his job, helping the community memorialize their loved ones. His door was always open to family, friends, and strangers alike. The last 20 years of his life while he battled dementia, he dedicated his life to teaching his friends and family how to receive personal revelation and to have a personal relationship with the Savior, Jesus Christ.
Preceding Randy in death are his mother and father; his brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Faye Moore; and his son, Scotlyn Moore. Randy leaves behind his wife and six children: Shelby (Elaine) Moore, Brendon (Leigh) Moore, Karisa (Gordon) Walker, Tyson (Kimberly) Moore, Cameron (Kerry) Moore, Amberly (Travis) Helm and 22 grandchildren: Layne, Brandon & Collin Moore, Shayne, Grace, Aubrey & Alex Moore, Jarrett & Kaden Walker, Spencer, Caleb, Mikel, Kassie & Tanner Moore, Natalie, William, Bryson, Makenzie & Olivia Moore, and Mackenzie, Everett & Jenna Helm. He is survived by seven siblings: Tamra (Brent) Ellis, Janelle Garner, Gregg (Denise) Moore, Brad (Patty) Moore, Melanie (Boomer) Benson, Danene (Russ) Polson and Stacy (Glen) Paskett.

Doreen A. Spencer: 1947 – 2023
Doreen Ann Winjum Spencer, age 76, passed at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Wyoming with her niece, June at her side. She was born on October 6, 1947, in Watertown, South Dakota to Dewey and Alice Winjum. She was the youngest of eight siblings and was closer in age to many of her nieces and nephews than her brother and sisters. Her preteen years were in Sioux Falls, South Dakota until she moved to California with her parents.
After graduation from Fontana High School in Fontana, California, she attended cosmetology school in the San Fernando Valley within Los Angeles, California. She worked in the Los Angeles area as a hair stylist for several years. Later in life she worked in the Real Estate industry as an Escrow Officer in the Denver area until her retirement.
Doreen loved the Los Angeles Dodgers, collected Coca-Cola memorabilia, and was very fond of and collected Native American art. One of her favorite things to do with her husband Jack and their children was camping in their small travel trailer. She and Jack even lived in their trailer for a short time in Texas.
She is survived by her children, Ronald Spencer, Scarlet Boxa, and grandchildren of Colorado; her sisters: LaVonne Wolcott of South Dakota, Mary Langendorfer of South Dakota, and Joyce Wright of California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Spencer; her parents, Dewey and Alice Winjum; her brother, Dale Winjum; and her sisters: Darlene Bryant, Gloria Abraham, and Marlys Tornow.
