Stephen Duane Dietrich

Stephen Duane Dietrich: 1948 – 2024

Stephen Duane Dietrich, known affectionately as Steve, was born on February 24, 1948, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. His journey on this earth came to an end on March 31, 2024, (Easter Sunday) in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was a man of many talents and a loving soul who touched the lives of all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Steve was a 1966 graduate of Gering High School and attended Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  His love for building and fixing things knew no bounds: woodworking, gardening, mechanical work, electrical tasks, plumbing – he could do it all.  He started driving big rigs at the young age of 13 and maintained his CDL license until the very end. He found joy in sharing his knowledge with his family; he once described himself as a complicated yet simple man.  Steve’s proudest accomplishment was always his cherished family.

His memories are filled with adventurous motorcycle trips alongside his wife and children to the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota.  He always took a yearly winter trip to Arizona with Katherine and their beloved dog, Sam.  An avid fisherman who found peace by lakesides, riversides, or oceanside and a passionate hunter who cherished nature and bonding time with his sons, brothers, and close friends.

Steve is survived by Katherine Dietrich, his beloved wife of 54 years (Cheyenne Wyoming); Florence Schlagel Martin, mother-in-law (Torrington, Wyoming); his children: Tracy Golladay (Mesa, Arizona), Mark Dietrich (Chandler, Arizona), Trevor Dietrich (Cheyenne, Wyoming); 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Surviving brothers are Scott and Patsy Williams (Erie, Colorado) and David and Colleen Dietrich (Scottsbluff, Nebraska). Surviving sisters-in-law are Patty Schlagel (Torrington, Wyoming), Janice Schlagel Dimas (Guernsey, Wyoming); nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve is reunited in eternal peace with Leroy P. Dietrich (father); Joyce Dietrich (mother); Eric Young (son); Leroy L. Dietrich (grandfather); Florence Dietrich (grandmother); Ray A. Brown (grandfather); Lucille Maude Brown (grandmother); Benjamin Schlagel (father-in-law); and Ronald L. Schlagel (brother-in-law).

In honoring Steve’s memory, let us celebrate a life well-lived; not with tears but with smiles for the joy he brought into our lives. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man who touched so many hearts, may we cherish the memories he crafted of laughter and love that will be cherished for generations to come.

A celebration of life for Steve will be held at a later date for family and friends.
