Peggy Joan Hyde: 1934 – 2024
Peggy Joan Hyde, 90 years old, joyfully took her lord’s hand on August 2, 2024.
Joan was born July 24, 1934 in Table Rock, Nebraska to Orville and Jenny Pearl (Cockrill) Alderman. She proudly told her family, friends and co-workers that she was named after a pair of twins, Peggy Jean and Patty Joan and was called by her middle name of Joan, which she would also say “Its’ pronounced Jo-An.”
She graduated from Pawnee City high school in 1952 and then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph as an information operator. Her life journey took her to Hastings, Nebraska where she worked as a photo finisher for Haberman Studio. Other positions Joan held throughout her life were babysitting, waitressing, being a Candy Striper/Certified Nursing Assistant at DePaul Hospital and Eventide Manor, a day care bus driver and cook at Kiddie Kollege, a floral arranger at Underwood Florist, and a photo developer at Ludwig Photos. Joan retired from Prudential Insurance as a secretary in 1984 after 15 years of service.
Joan met her husband, Charles Hyde, affectionately known as Chuck, January 18, 1953 on a blind date when her cousin, who was a military service buddy of Chuck’s, introduced them. After six months of being pursued by Chuck, Joan succumbed to his good looks and charm and they married on July 18, 1953. They were married for 58 years.
Joan and Chuck and their then-four daughters moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1961, after which two additional girls were added to their family. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served as “Grandma” in the nursery and participated in numerous Mother/Daughter Banquets, singing and performing skits with her daughters.
Joan enjoyed the simple things in life, one of which was making patchwork quilts and giving them away. Each of her daughters received a quilt especially designed by Joan’s heart. She enjoyed music and loved to sing, even learning how to yodel. Joan learned to play the piano “by ear” and, amongst other songs, she could play a mean “Beer Barrel Polka.” She spent a lot of her time gardening, reading, square dancing with her husband and watching Lawrence Welk. She was a baseball fan and watched the World Series on television for many years. She was also a fan of Tom Jones and when she listened to him, there was to be no talking.
Joan is survived by her children: Bonnie King of Cheyenne, Susan (John) Clingman of Casper, Jill (Bob) Warner of Houston, Texas; Wendy (Steve) Winger of Missoula, Montana; Lori (Dennis) Kolkman of Dubois, Wyoming; and Kathleen (Dean) Lee of Cheyenne. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Rotha, Norma Gail and Carleen; her husband, Chuck; her son-in-law, the Rev. Lyn King; her nephew, Stephen Percival and niece, Joyce Brannan.
Joan stated, “I was blessed with a loving and caring family of all ages.”
Funeral services will be held at Capitol City Church, 1800 East Pershing on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10 a.m. with interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Joan has requested for those attending her services to join the family at internment, after which a private family reception will be held.
Ina Faye McClain: 1932 – 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ina Faye McClain, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend.
Ina Faye McClain was born on June 29, 1932, in Danville, Arkansas, and passed away on July 29, 2024, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Throughout her life, Ina dedicated herself to a career as an insurance underwriter and was also a real agent in Cheyenne. Her dedication to her work was commendable, and she excelled in all her endeavors.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ina will be remembered for her unwavering love and devotion to her family. Family meant everything to her, and she always put their needs above her own. In times of need or uncertainty, Ina was the rock that her loved ones could always lean on. Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds.
In her free time, Ina enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She found joy in horseback riding and proudly participated in numerous Cheyenne Frontier Days parades. Additionally, she was known for her skills on roller skates and often found solace in gliding gracefully around the rink.
Ina is survived by her loving husband, Willis H. McClain; daughter, Sandra Cary; sister, Wanda Sue Walker; stepson, Russell G. McClain; stepdaughter, Angie Hickmott; stepson, Darvin McClain; as well as numerous grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She is preceded in death by her sons, Donald L. Cary Jr. and Daniel D. Cary; her brother, Raymond Mcarthur; and her mother, Ola Lyons.
A celebration of life to honor Ina Faye McClain will be held at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home in Cheyenne on August 9 at 10 a.m., followed by a Memorial Gathering at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with a graveside service at The Cheyenne National Cemetery at 1 p.m.
Ina Faye McClain’s legacy of love and strength will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace knowing that she was cherished beyond measure.
