Benjamin LeRoy Britton: 1951 – 2024
Benjamin LeRoy Britton, 72, transitioned on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at a retirement community close to his daughter in Jacksonville, Florida. His daughter was by his side in the afternoon singing some country classics to him, and planned to return that evening to sing again, as well as the next morning. However, the good lord called him up before he could hear that next off-key concert.
He moved from Wyoming to Florida in November of 2022.
Benjamin was brave and adventurous in his later years with the move to Florida. He never stopped doing what Dads do as far as worrying about his children and trying to make challenging times easier for them.
Benjamin was born on September 11, 1951, in Lusk, Wyoming, the son of Howard and Illa (Keane) Britton. He graduated from Glendo High School in 1969. He married Charolette Jean Sullivan of Douglas in 1972. Together they raised three children in the Glendo area.
Benjamin worked in his early years in farm/ranch work but found his true niche as a skilled heavy equipment operator. He worked very hard and eventually opened his own business “Britton Construction” which he ran with his wife Charolette and son Benjamin H. Britton based out of Douglas, Wyoming.
Benjamin was the hardest worker you could ever meet. He was a kind and gentle soul. He was very proud to be from a family of 12 children. He loved his family dearly.
When he was not working, he and his wife Charolette enjoyed trips to Deadwood, South Dakota where they had some great luck gambling.
Benjamin is survived by his son, James (Lisa) Britton; his daughter, Lisa (Jeremy) Drang; and youngest son, Benjamin H. (Kim) Britton. Grandchildren include: Ashley, Amanda, Adam (Brittany), Zachary, Lauren (Konnor), Riley and Dean. As well as great-grandchildren: Alice, David, Nolan, Ayden, Khloe and Constance.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Charolette (Sullivan) Britton (2019).
You are invited to attend a celebration of Benjamin’s life on September 14, 2024, at 10th Street Social, 812 10th Street, Wheatland, WY 82201. We will start around noon; there will be food, beverage and ample time to visit.
