Jerry Page Carter: 1935 – 2024
Jerry Page Carter traveled peacefully through the gates of heaven after a long battle with Alzheimers, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. He was born on September 12, 1935 to Ethel M. (Carpenter) Carter and Lester O. Carter in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1953. He attended the University of Wyoming, where he gained the valuable knowledge that led him to his career path as a printing specialist with the Wyoming Highway Department, State of Wyoming Department of Fiscal Control (DAFC) and the Bureau of Land Management.
He was a Lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 660 in Cheyenne where he served as a Lodge Officer as well as Lodge Trustee.
Jerry was a Sergeant First Class in the Wyoming National Guard, where he served in the Engineering Corps. and was honorably discharged in September 1962.
Jerry Participated in Cheyenne Frontier Days from a young age, serving as a volunteer for multiple committees, for over 50 years. He was a long-time member of the Public Relations Committee, Silver HEEL member, member of the Buckle Club and at the time of his death, still served as a PR volunteer on its sponsor host sub-committee.
Jerry started as a volunteer in 1973 on the Tickets Committee and transferred to the Publicity Committee, bringing along the Information Wagons, or “Howdy Wagons,“ from Tickets. As a Publicity Assistant, he worked primarily with the media. In 1980 Jerry designed the Miss Frontier buckle in memory of Sandy Hirsig, which is used today.
In 1982, Jerry was selected to the General Committee and at his suggestion, the Publicity Committee was renamed the Public Relations Committee. After finishing his term on the General Committee, he was named to the CFD Old West Museum Board. He served on the Museum’s Building Committee for the design and construction of the Museum’s Vandewark Wing and the remodel of the current building’s south side.
From the museum, he volunteered with the Indian Committee until 1998 hosting visiting queens. In the most recent years, he worked as a volunteer on the PR Committee in the Sponsor Deck Bar serving visiting sponsors and dignitaries.
Jerry was inducted in to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame Class of 2017. He will always be remembered as a person who, “Rode for the Brand.”
He was featured in a picture on the Wyoming road map while Slalom skiing on the Guernsey Reservoir. Anyone that joined him in a game of Croquet had better beware because he derived great pleasure in sending your ball to the far end of the back yard. He was an amazing man that valued family, CFD, Elks, God and his Country. He always said that any job worth doing was a job worth doing well.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his younger brother, Tom Carter; his nephew, Barry Carter; his wife, Mauree Pratt Carter; former spouse, Marion Clymer; his mother-in-law, Jean Renzema; and his sister-in-law, Tina Carroll.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Victoria (Vicci) Carter; his children: Kim (Alan) Lamb, Kent Carter, Kelli (David) Henry; his blended family childre: Carol (David) O’Dell, Roxie (Angelo) Gonzalez, Von Maul, Katrina (Chip), Suter; sister-in-law, Susan Young Carter; his sister and brother-in-Law, Retta and Don Judy; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His memorial service with a celebration of his life to follow, will be held May 3, 2025, at the Buckle Club at Frontier Park. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jerry’s honor may be made to the Old West Museum Hall of Fame Exhibit. Send to: Old West Museum, 4610 Carey Ave, Cheyenne, WY 82001.
Dorothy E. Carter: 1939 – 2024
Dorothy Ellen Wright Carter, 84, of Cheyenne, died on September 19, 2024, in Cheyenne. She was born on October 20, 1939, in Mountain View, Wyoming.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved her heavenly father and savior with all her heart and served them faithfully all her life. She looked forward to returning home to them. She was a sweet friend to everyone blessed to know her. She loved her family with all her heart.
She married Robert Leslie Carter in St. George, Utah Temple and were blessed with a happy marriage and three wonderful children. She loved being a stay-at-home mother. She liked crocheting and often made things to donate to the needy. In her 60’s she decided to go to school to become a massage therapist. She loved helping people feel better spiritually, emotionally and physically and had very loyal clientele. She never said an unkind word or complained about anything.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Marilyn Bellis (Joe), Brenda Roberts (Ron), and David Carter (Erica); 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carter; her father, Roehl Wright and her mother, Vinnie Jensen Wright of Cheyenne; brother Larry J. Wright; sister, Delora Wright Cameron; and a great-grandson, Makaili Evans.
Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Stake Center located at 309 Western Hills Blvd. Cheyenne, on Tuesday September 24, 2024 at 2 p.m., viewing will begin at 1 p.m.
Keith Herman Miller: 1943 – 2024
Keith Miller was born on October 29, 1943, in Sidney, Nebraska, to Herman and Dorothy (Grimes) Miller. He graduated from Gurley High School in 1962 where he stayed on the farm until he took up his passion of aviation. Keith then enrolled in the WNCC Aviation program in March of ’73 and graduated on November, 8, 1974. After a lengthy career in aviation maintenance, he came back to WNCC and taught at the Aviation program where he graduated from and taught from August of 1998 through February of 2020.
He married his true love Cheryl Studnicka on August 10, 1965, to which Bryon and Michelle were born.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Miller of 56 years; parents, Herman and Dorothy; siblings: Marilyn, Bruce and Gene; and granddaughter Nicole. He is survived by his son, Bryon (Michelle) Miller of Cheyenne; daughter, Michelle (Chris) Miller of Mitchell; granddaughters: Ashley (Kyle) of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Bryli Miller of Scottsbluff, Nebraska , Taylor (Cesar) Martinez of Silverdale, Washington, Alesia Miller of Gering, Nebraska; grandson, Trey Miller of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Denise Miller of Cheyenne, Wyoming; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He loved flying, farming, watching westerns and the time he got to spend with family.
A service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lodgepole Nebraska on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 11 a.m.
Robert Earl Shriner: 1936 – 2024
Robert Earl Shriner was born January 18, 1936 and died on September 16, 2024. He was born the first of four brothers in Denver, Colorado. Bob graduated from North Denver High School where he met his future wife, Ernestine Knemeyer. They would be married for 66 years. Bob and Ernie moved to Cheyenne in 1956. He began selling for Pioneer Printing and Stationery and would eventually become a co-owner with Jake O’Hashi. Bob enjoyed his coworkers at Pioneer Printing and was excited to interact with customers.
He also started Action Ads, a promotional products company that he and Ernie ran for 40 years. Bob loved running his businesses and being involved in the community. He was a member of Cheyenne Lions Club and Cheyenne Rotary Club. Bob also enjoyed gardening, reading, and travel. He was a fan of Laramie County Community College and served on the Board of Trustees. He always had a “one-liner” to see if he could make someone smile.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ernie Shriner. He is survived by his two remaining brothers and their wives: Ken (Sandy) Shriner and Ralph (Sandy) Shriner. Bob and Ernie are survived by their children and their spouses: Scott (Rochelle) Shriner, Kent (Kari) Shriner, and Crystal (Ken) Burke; the grandkids and their spouses: Lindsey (Joe), Ian (Amanda), Maddi, Nick (Brianna), Corbin (Tatum), Hunter and Sheyanne; and seven great-grandchildren. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
