Aspynn Eric Gholson

Aspynn Eric Gholson: 1996 – 2024

Aspynn Eric Gholson, 28, of Cheyenne, left this earth on October 31, 2024. He was born on September 29, 1996 in Newcastle, Wyoming to Eric Gholson and Dodie Barta. Aspynn was undeniably and unapologetically Aspynn. He was one of the brightest people in this world, with a stunning and beautiful mind. In 2015, Aspynn graduated from South High School in Cheyenne Wyoming, while being dedicated to his job at Culvers. He went on to attend college classes at Casper College and Laramie County Community College to achieve his lifelong dream of becoming a history teacher.

Aspynn most recently worked at Sierra Trading Post as a fork lift driver and a shift trainer and loved every minute of it. He was hard working, dedicated, and passionate about being successful and inspired everyone around him to be successful as well.

Aspynn was an avid hiker His energetic new puppy, Koda Bear, could often be found right by his side as they explored the trails together. He was constantly sharing tons of photos and videos of the two of them hiking and playing. He had a love for anything competitive and would make sure you knew he was winning, and you were losing, but because of his uniquely wonderful sense of humor it was always a fun time with him no matter who won or lost.

Aspynn was always the one to show up and instigate game nights; cornhole being his absolute favorite yard game, and he thought he had the skills to be a world competitor — to the rest of us he was just ok. He was big on board games and loved showing off his intelligence with a game of trivia or going head to head with his mom or grandma in Scrabble. His number one go-to game though was Rock Band. He broke two of the drum pedals jamming out and becoming an expert of the master levels; this was because Aspynn wanted to be the best at whatever he touched. Whether it was games, his schoolwork, or simply just the task that required of him for work.

His latest obsession was mastering wakeboarding. It took only a few trips out on the boat for him to get the hang of things and when he did BOOM! He was hooked! He loved to sit by the fire after a long day on the water just chatting and laughing the night away with his friends from his AA group. Aspynn was very passionate about his AA community and lifted up so many people both within the community and outside of it with his humor and quick witted comedy. This world won’t be nearly as bright without his infectious laughter to bring a smile to the faces of those who loved him.

Above all else, there was nothing that Asypnn loved more than his family. His family was his whole world. He truly loved being a brother and son and adored being an uncle. Aspynn was the epitome of the “fun uncle,” the one who made you belly laugh till you cried and pestered you into Nerf gun wars. The brother who would move mountains for his siblings (Sibs as he would affectionately call us ), whether it was showing up to big events or just simply texting to ask “Who wants Chick-fil-a?!” Can’t forget the daily Snapchats he would send to us of his outfits bragging about how good he looked. He had one taste for style and always dressed to impress. Aspynn was a mama’s boy who was his dad’s twin. You would often always see him hugging his mom or cracking the most absolutely hilarious jokes with his dad. He would call just to leave goofy voicemails, and text random memes all day just so he knew someone was laughing.

We truly have no words to express the feelings of great loss that comes with his passing. He will be dearly missed. Our lives are forever changed. But in the great words of Albus Dumbledore, “After all, to the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.”

He is survived by his parents, Eric (Tabitha) Gholson, Dodie (Scott) Barta; older sister, Brittany Kammerer; younger sisters: Valerie Peterson, Rhayna Barta, and Alyssa Gholson; younger brother, Rhayce Barta; nephews: Cayden Haynes, Riley Haynes and Parker Haynes; grandparents, Pam and Rob Gholson; and grandmother, Janice Lehrkamp; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Aspynn was preceded in death by his sister, Courtney Gholson; his brother, Skylar Gholson; and his maternal grandfather, Leo Lehrkamp.

Eric G. Lee: 1964 – 2024

Born September 16, 1964, in Denver, Colorado, Eric Grant Lee moved to Cheyenne with his family in 1968. He attended Jessup Elementary and Trinity Lutheran before graduating from Central High School in 1983. He graduated with a BA in Art from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley in 1988 and then attended the Interior Design Institute in Denver, graduating with a Masters in Interior Design in 1991.

After moving back to Cheyenne, he started an interior design business in Cheyenne and Fort Collins and worked at Kinkos for several years. He went to the University of Wyoming for a degree in education, graduating in 1999. Later that year, he began teaching art at Afflerbach Elementary, later moving to Central High School. In the 22 years he taught, he was beloved by his students, who found him to be a caring and encouraging teacher, and his class a sanctuary. He loved introducing students to art, encouraging them to flourish, and even traveling with some to Denver and overseas to learn more about art.

Eric loved art from a very young age, and could often be found sketching, painting and collaging. A talented artist across multiple media, Eric showed and sold work around Wyoming. He consistently donated artwork to a wide variety of causes. Aside from art, he loved golden retrievers and provided a loving home to several, including Madison, Henry and Oliver. Travel was another abiding passion, and he went often to Maine, a place he loved and often wished to move. He had a goal to make it to every state in the union, which he did, and he also visited Europe several times. Eric loved to go places and enjoyed a good cup of coffee anywhere he went. A “people” person, Eric could talk to anyone and contributed charm and conversation to any event he attended. He rarely went anywhere without meeting people he knew, and he remembered everyone.

Eric loved his family very much and missed his father until the end of his life. He provided devoted, loving care to his mother Helen for many years even while struggling with his own health.

Eric is survived by his mother, Helen Lee; and brother, Karl Lee; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee.

A service will be held in his honor on Saturday November 16 at 10 a.m. at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, followed by a reception.
