Martha Frances (Akars) Anderson: 1935 – 2025

Martha Frances (Akars) Anderson died January 29, 2025 on her 90th birthday at Pathways of Northern Colorado. She was born January 29, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to Arthur and Lola Akars and was raised in Vienna, Missouri.

Martha was an accomplished violinist and turned down a Juilliard scholarship to attend nursing school. She received her diploma nursing degree from Barnes Hospital Nursing School in St. Louis, Missouri.  While working at the hospital, she met her future husband Dr. David M. Anderson, Jr. They were married May 7, 1956 at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas as he was ready to deploy to Tokyo, Japan.  They had their first son while stationed there.

In 1958, the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Dr. Anderson finished his OB-GYN residency. While there, they had their second son.  Upon completion of the residency, the Andersons moved to Laramie, Wyoming in 1960 where they had their daughter. Martha stayed busy raising her young family, playing violin in the University of Wyoming symphony (as First Chair) and helping in her husband’s busy clinic. As the family grew, Martha taught candy striper classes at Ivinson Memorial Hospital, participated in square dancing, played violin for multiple engagements, and served the community in many capacities. She was also a master knitter and made many beautiful items for her family and friends.

In 1985, the Andersons retired and moved to Ten Sleep, Wyoming. Martha quickly made friends and got involved in community projects and in the local Methodist Church. They split their time between Ten Sleep and Apache Junction, Arizona until 2013 when they moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado to be closer to children and grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband, David M. Anderson, Jr.  She is survived by her children: son, Stephen and Jennifer Anderson, Cheyenne, Wyoming; son, G. Bruce Anderson, Sandy, Utah; and daughter Brenda and David Abbott, Ft. Collins, Colorado; grandchildren: Jocelyn (Dan) Meyer, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Matthew (Kelsie) Anderson, Cheyenne, Wyoming; and, Benjamin (Madison) Anderson, Wichita, Kansas; step-granddaughters: Maggie Abbott (Frank Ballinger), Danielle Abbott (Steve Sherlag) and Libby Abbott; great-grandchildren: Henry, Samuel and Sadie Anderson; Jackson and Erin Meyer; Vivienne Ballinger; and, Sophia, Lena and Ana Sherlag.

No Celebration of Life service has been set at this time.
