Platte Hemp Company advocating for growth in Wyoming’s cannabis legislation

Since Wyoming passed the Farm Law in 2018, allowing cannabis extracts high in CBD and low-THC percentages, a slew of CBD shops have opened across the state. One of the first to open up shop was Platte Hemp Company.

Platte Hemp was founded by Wyoming resident Sam Watt and his wife, Alicia, who started their CBD journey in 2018. After the Farm Bill had passed, the couple opened their first shop in Rawlins in 2019.

Since then, the two have opened two other Platte Hemp shops, one in Casper and the other in Gillette, and coming this year, Sam plans to open two more locations in Cheyenne and Laramie.

“The Casper location opened in May 2020, and it’s been a learning experience, educating myself and learning all that I can,” Sam said. “It’s been really fun.”

Offering a wide variety of products, customers can expect hemp flower, vapes, CBD, pre-rolls, D8 (delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol), accessories, and even CBD for your pets.

With all the products Platte Hemp has to offer, many first-time buyers can feel overwhelmed, but don’t be. The staff at Platte Hemp stay educated and up to date about the products and are there to help you every step of the way.

“Write down any questions you might have or just a little bit about yourself, like blood type or illness, which will help us answer any questions you may have,” Sam said. “We have a lot of education behind the product; just knowing a little bit more about you and if you’ve ever tried cannabis or CBD in the past will help. Just come in, and we will spend time with you and answer your questions as best as possible.”

Platte Hemp also offers weekly deals and promotions featuring Buy One Cartridge, Get One Half Off Tuesdays, Thirsty Thursdays, Customer Appreciation Sundays and more.

“The promotions keep the customers interested, “Sam said. “We run the promotions seven days a week, and we deliver. Order the product online, and it’ll be delivered right to your doorstep. Plus, it’s free delivery.”

That’s not all. Platte Hemp is now offering glassblowing classes. You’ll get one-on-one instruction from a master glassblower, get hands-on experience with glassmaking and create some artwork.

“I saw an opportunity for myself and my wife to establish a business in blowing glass. You can have a studio to work in and work with a glassblower with ten years of experience,” Sam said. “Many of our customers are coming in to learn about the art of it and not just make pipes and bongs. The results are pretty cool, and it’s something you can take home with you.”

Though Wyoming passed the Farm Bill, there is more work to be done for the legalization of marijuana. Sam has advocated for the legalization of marijuana in Wyoming because he sees that these products aren’t harmful or gateway drugs, but he knows the potential health benefits of using marijuana.

“I started getting involved around 2015–2016, educating myself and partnering with a team trained to get marijuana legalized to get the petitions out there and get signatures, “Sam said.

The Patients Cannabis Act of 2022 and the Wyoming Cannabis Amendments are set to decriminalize marijuana and legalize medical marijuana. If they don’t make it on the upcoming 2024 ballot, it would be another 4–5 years before it would be on the ballot again. You can support the bill by signing the petition at any of their locations.

While cannabis remains illegal in Wyoming, Sam hasn’t given up the fight. “I’ll never be done. I’m fully invested,” Sam said. “I’ve seen what this plant can do and its benefits.”

Sam and his wife’s passion for this industry make Platte Hemp stand out. Platte Hemp delivers high-quality products and has a knowledgeable and educated team that cares about customers and their health needs.
